Community Development

We are working in community development in two communities in Romania. One is in Poiana—a small town in South Eastern Romania. This project is focused on housing development (insulation), youth programs.  The other project is in Lazarenni a remote gypsy village in North Romania. This project  aims to address the employment, educational, housing and basic needs of the community. In a village with no running water or drinking water we are addressing hygiene needs through the “diaper a day project”. Our program partners are also currently exploring intitiaves to set up small micro-businesses. There has been workshops for men in woodworking and carpentry. They also run after school education programs for 7 to 11 year olds to help curb the high drop out rate and a pre-school program for 4 to 6 year olds.

Our work in Romania is through a join partnership with the UK based organization called the Proton Foundation.
